I am a graduate student in USF’s Master of Library and Information Science program and will earn my degree in Spring of 2013. I previously received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree summa cum laude from USF with a specialization in painting. As a Library Services Assistant for the Hernando County Public Library System, I have performed numerous Story-times, created art-based programs for kids and teens, and am using my artistic skills to paint furniture and murals for the West Hernando Branch Library. I am greatly interested in Youth Services and hope to officially work in this capacity someday. My main goal is to promote literacy and an appreciation for all the arts in children who might not otherwise be exposed to its wealth of ideas and creativity. I have been welcomed into the Student Organization of Library and Information Science as the President of its Special Libraries Association chapter. As a new Graduate Assistant for one of my final semesters at USF, I hope to further expand my professional understanding of libraries and to offer a unique contribution to the Master’s program.
I personally love YA Lit and read as much of it as I possibly can! I especially love reading classic books, which are often appropriate for young people. Among my favorite books are, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, The Once and Future King by T.H. White, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and Phantom by Susan Kay. I hope these reviews will introduce you to the amazing works available for young people (and people of all ages!) today.
